What We Do

Horizons is aiming to create, implement and develop a model of improved and sustainable healthcare in the Gambia that can then be used in other parts of sub-Saharan Africa.

Over the next few years Horizons will focus on three main goals:

  1. Reducing maternal and infant mortality through: provision of outreach services for mothers/pregnant women and infants under two years old; training for midwives in outreach clinics; and development of an effective triage system leading to referral of at risk pregnant women and infants to the Horizons Clinic.
  2. Work in collaboration with other providers of healthcare to increase the capacity and standard of healthcare in the Gambia through provision of outreach healthcare services and development of a training programme for healthcare professionals in the Gambia.
  3. Establish the Horizons Clinic: a high quality, international-standard hospital, which generates sufficient revenue to be financially self-sustainable in the long-term and steadfastly supports Horizons Charities to deliver the charitable goals.

Horizons Trust Gambia is laying the foundations for this work through promoting partnerships and providing training.
